about

"Cracks In The Air" by Javi Canovas.
'No Place To Stay' starts the album with ambient calming atmospherics, layering over one another, with an almost melancholy feeling.
'One Existence' begins atmospherically quite haunting in a macabre way. It's as if a sleeping giant is nearby and you wouldn't want to disturb it's sleep. Chilling piece.
'Over Time' brings more organ sounds and breathing atmos' and ambience. This brings the vision of cold empty landscapes of ice and snow, like depicted by the cover art. This isn't melancholy or disturbing, but just makes me feel calm and at ease within my own mind. Good therapy for the end of a long day.
'Fatum' sounds as if I'm in the engine room of a huge space-station looking down at a frozen Earth through a small viewing glass. Swirls, swooshes and heavy drone fills my head with visions of a stormy weather system as the planet plunges into an ice-age. Wonderful stuff!
'The Structure Of Illusion' starts with guitar and ambient tones, and I imagine following a stream from the point of view of a fish, when frozen by ice at the surface but still flowing beneath, not knowing where it will lead me to. I quite enjoyed this one.
'Paranoid Voice' gives the feeling of a ghost being haunted by the reflection of himself, and tension is created by the rising and falling of tones and volume of the piece, in a subtlty of drama kind of way. Reminded me of very early TD. The last section of this track sounded as if I was at a great oceanic shoreline. Nice one.
'Memory Dismantled' starts with organ and synth' ambience, and further synth' noises are introduced. My imagination takes me into a cave at a beach, and echoing resonances are unhinging my mind. It's as if a huge storm has entered the space, and what sounds like the tide is washing up. Will I be trapped inside, and even get out alive? No memory now, just survival instinct!
'Cracks In The Air' introduces the only sequence of the album, and a lovely bouncy one it is too, with tinkling effects and subtle chord changes. Effects are added and a nice rhythmic feel makes me imagine being on an enchanting magical journey. Lovely piece of music.
'Aevum' starts with organ and choir voice sounds, quite cleansing as if I am joined by angels of the gods of greek mythology. If heaven ever has a sound, this could be it. Uplifting to a higher plain, but then adds a touch of sinister presence so that you don't feel completely safe.
'Ultimate Nature Of Mirage' starts with echoing resonating of sounds and effects. I imagine being inside a huge metallic chamber and the breeze is swooshing through. Spooky effects come and go and I feel as if I'm not alone and I'm surrounded by senses of alien lifeforms and machines coming and going in the total darkness. Scary.
There is a lot going on in this varied and enjoyable ambient album.
